Frequently Asked Questions

How does automatic trip detection work?
MileTracker uses your iPhone's motion sensors and GPS to detect when you're driving. When you reach driving speed (typically above 15 mph), the app automatically starts recording your trip. When you stop and park, the trip ends automatically.

For this feature to work, you need to:
  • Allow "Always" location access in Settings
  • Enable Motion & Fitness access
  • Keep background app refresh enabled
What are the 2026 IRS mileage rates?
The 2026 IRS standard mileage rates are:
  • Business: 72.5 cents per mile
  • Medical: 20.5 cents per mile
  • Charity: 14 cents per mile
  • Personal: Not deductible
MileTracker automatically calculates your potential tax deduction based on these rates.
How do I export my mileage reports?
Premium subscribers can export reports in multiple formats:
  • Go to the Reports tab
  • Select your desired time period
  • Tap Export Report
  • Choose PDF or CSV format
Reports include trip date, start/end locations, distance, category, and calculated deduction.
Is my data safe and private?
Yes! Your data privacy is our priority:
  • All trip data is stored locally on your device
  • Premium users can optionally sync via iCloud (encrypted)
  • We never sell or share your location data
  • You can delete all data at any time from Settings
Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple:
  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Tap your name at the top
  • Tap Subscriptions
  • Find MileTracker and tap Cancel Subscription
Your premium features will remain active until the end of your billing period.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
To restore your subscription:
  • Open MileTracker on your new device
  • Go to Settings → Subscription
  • Tap Restore Purchases
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
What counts toward my 15 free trips?
Free users get 15 trips per calendar month. Each recorded trip (whether auto-detected or manually entered) counts as one trip. The counter resets on the first day of each month. Upgrade to Premium for unlimited trips.

Troubleshooting

🔴 Trips aren't being detected automatically

Make sure location services are set to "Always" (Settings → Privacy → Location Services → MileTracker → Always). Also ensure Motion & Fitness is enabled and Background App Refresh is on.

🔴 GPS accuracy seems off

GPS accuracy depends on satellite visibility. Tunnels, tall buildings, and bad weather can affect accuracy. For best results, wait a few seconds after starting the app before beginning your trip.

🔴 iCloud sync not working

Ensure you're signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID on all devices. Check that iCloud Drive is enabled (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive). Try toggling the sync setting off and on in MileTracker settings.

🔴 App is draining battery

MileTracker is optimized for low battery usage, but continuous GPS tracking does use power. If you notice unusual drain, try disabling auto-detection when not needed, or set tracking to "Weekdays only" in Configure settings.
