Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 16, 2026 · Applies to EXIF Pro for iOS and iPadOS by Essential Dev Team

The short version. Your photos never leave your device: all metadata reading, editing, stripping and scanning happens on your iPhone or iPad. There are no accounts, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. The app sends anonymous usage statistics (which screens are used, how many photos are cleaned, whether a purchase happened), tied to a random installation ID and never to your identity. You can switch them off at any time in Settings › Privacy.

1. Who we are

EXIF Pro is developed and published by Essential Dev Team ("we", "us"). You can reach us at essentialdevteam@gmail.com.

2. What the app does with your photos

EXIF Pro reads the metadata embedded in photos you choose (EXIF, TIFF, IPTC, GPS and related dictionaries), shows it to you, and can rewrite or remove it when you ask. This processing uses Apple's on-device frameworks (ImageIO, PhotoKit, Vision, MapKit) and runs on your iPhone or iPad. Your photos are never sent to us. The one thing that leaves the device is a photo's GPS coordinates, which are looked up with Apple's location service to show a place name (see section 5).

3. Data we collect

Nothing that identifies you. We do not collect names, email addresses, advertising identifiers, location history, or the content of your photos. The app has no sign-up.

Anonymous usage statistics. To understand which features are used and to catch crashes, the app records a small set of anonymous events, tied to a random installation ID generated on your device and sent to our own servers (hosted on Supabase):

They never include your name, email, phone number, address, a location, an advertising identifier or vendor identifier, prices paid, receipts, transaction IDs, anything you typed, or anything from a photo. Your IP address is not stored or used. Usage statistics are kept for 13 months and crash and performance reports for 6 months, then deleted.

You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy › Share Usage Data; the switch also deletes the data waiting on your device. To have the data already sent deleted, email us the Installation ID shown under the switch.

4. Permissions the app asks for

PermissionWhy it is requestedWhat happens with it
Photos (read & write)To show your library, read metadata, and save cleaned copies when you ask.Stays on device. You can grant access to only selected photos.
Location (while using)Only when you tap "Use current location" in the location editor to stamp a photo with where you are now.Written into that photo's metadata on device. Not stored by the app or sent to us.

You can change either permission at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security.

5. Network activity

Besides the optional anonymous usage statistics described in section 3, EXIF Pro uses the network only to talk to Apple: (a) on launch it asks the App Store lookup service whether a newer version is available (the request contains only the app's bundle identifier); (b) when you view a photo that has GPS coordinates but no place name, the coordinates are sent to Apple's location service to look up the city and region shown in the headline — this goes to Apple, not to us; (c) addresses you type in the location editor are looked up with Apple Maps; (d) photos stored only in iCloud are downloaded from your own iCloud Photos library when you open them; (e) purchases are handled by the App Store. If a request fails, the app simply continues offline. Place names and maps are provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

6. Data stored on your device

Your preferences (for example the original-photo policy, saved metadata templates and default author or copyright text) are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage and are included in your normal device backup. Deleting the app deletes this data, with one exception: the number of free clean copies already used is kept in this device's keychain (never synced or sent anywhere), so reinstalling does not reset it.

6b. Purchases

Optional EXIF Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. The app checks your purchase status on your device using Apple's StoreKit. We never see your payment details, prices paid, receipts or transaction IDs. If usage statistics are on, the app records that a purchase, restore, renewal or refund happened and the plan type, tied only to the random installation ID (see section 3).

7. Third parties

The app contains no advertising, third-party analytics or social SDKs. Anonymous usage statistics are processed by us on infrastructure hosted by Supabase; purchases are handled by Apple. We do not sell, share or trade any data.

8. Children

EXIF Pro is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR, CCPA and similar laws you have rights to access, correct and delete personal data. Usage statistics are tied to a random installation ID, not to your identity. To access or delete them, email us the Installation ID shown in Settings › Privacy. Everything else lives on your device and is removed when you delete the app, except the free-copy counter described in section 6. If you have a question about this, email us and we will help.

10. Changes to this policy

If the app's behaviour ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and the effective date above, and describe the change in the App Store release notes.
