Getting Started

Creating Your First Project

  1. Open AreaCalc Pro. It opens on your Projects list — tap "New Project"
  2. Give your project a name (e.g., "Living Room Flooring")
  3. Tap "Add Section" to add your first area
  4. Enter the dimensions in feet and inches
  5. Your total area is calculated automatically

Adding Multiple Areas

Add as many sections as the job needs. Tap "Add Section" for each new area and give it a name — "Kitchen", "Hallway", "Bedroom 1" — so the export reads clearly.

Subtracting Windows, Doors and Islands

Not everything you measure should be added. In the section editor, turn on "Subtract from total" and that section is taken off the total instead. Use it for windows in a wall, a kitchen island in a floor, or a fire pit in a patio. Subtracted sections appear in red with a minus sign, so a client can follow the arithmetic.

If your subtractions add up to more than the areas you added, the app shows a warning rather than a nonsensical total.

Round Areas: Circles and Semicircles

At the top of the section editor you can choose Rectangle, Circle or Semicircle. Round shapes ask for a single diameter instead of two dimensions. Circles and semicircles are part of Pro.

Using the Quantity Feature

If you have several identical areas — three windows the same size, a run of tiles — use the quantity multiplier instead of adding each one separately. In the section editor, adjust the quantity to multiply that area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my measurements if I change units?

Go to Settings and tap the unit selector — Square Feet (ft²), Square Meters (m²) or Square Inches (in²). In metres you enter metres and centimetres; in feet, feet and inches.

Your saved projects are converted, not reinterpreted: a 2.5 m × 4 m room stays the same physical size and simply reads as 8 ft 2 in × 13 ft 1 in. Your price per unit is converted too, so the job total is unchanged. The app confirms on screen when it has converted your measurements.

How does the pricing calculator work?

In Settings, make sure "Show Pricing" is enabled. In your project, enter your price per unit (e.g., $5 per square foot for flooring). The app will automatically calculate the total cost based on your total area.

Can I save my projects?

Yes! Projects are saved automatically on your device. The app opens on your Projects list, so your saved projects are right there — tap one to open it. With Pro, iCloud Sync keeps them on your other devices too.

How do I export my calculations?

Open your project and tap "Export" in the top right corner. Choose a PDF estimate, which carries your business details from Settings › Your Business, or a CSV file, then share it by email, messages or any other app, or save it to Files. Both include every section with its shape and dimensions, which ones were subtracted, the total, your pricing if enabled, and any customer details and notes in the project. Export is part of Pro.

How do I add a customer?

Open the project and tap its customer card or title to open Project Details. Add the customer name and job name there; you can also add job notes. With Pro you can add the job address and the client's phone and email too, fill the address from your current location with the location button, and tap Directions to open it in Apple Maps. Customer details appear on your PDF and CSV exports.

How do I delete a section?

In the project, tap the section to open it, then tap Delete Section. The app asks you to confirm first, so a mistaken tap can't remove a measurement.

How do I change the app theme?

Go to Settings and select your preferred theme. Light, Dark and Auto (follows your device settings) are free; Warm, Cool, Navy and Gradient come with Pro.

Is my data backed up?

Your projects are always saved on your device. With Pro you have two more ways to keep them safe:

  • iCloud Sync keeps your projects, including customer details and notes, in your own iCloud account and on your other devices. It is on by default for Pro; switch it in Settings › iCloud & Backup. We cannot see that data — it lives in your iCloud. Turning sync off keeps the iCloud copy; Remove Projects from iCloud… deletes it and keeps the projects on your device.
  • Back Up Projects… saves a backup file wherever you like, such as Files or iCloud Drive. Import Backup… adds the projects from that file without overwriting the ones you have.

Do you collect my data?

Not your project data. Your project names, measurements, quotes, customer details and notes are stored on your device, and in your own iCloud account if you use iCloud Sync. We never receive them.

The app does send anonymous usage statistics: a random installation identifier, your device model, iOS version, app version, language and region, accessibility settings in use, which screens and features you use, paywall and purchase events, and crash reports from Apple. That is how we see what is working and fix what is not.

It never includes your name, email, location, your figures, or any advertising identifier. It is not linked to you, never used for tracking, and never shared or sold. It is stored for us by Supabase, and deleted after 13 months, or 6 months for crash diagnostics.

You can turn it off any time in Settings › Privacy › Share Usage Data. To delete what was already sent, copy your Installation ID from the same screen and email it to us. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

The app is showing incorrect calculations. What should I do?

Double-check your dimension inputs. Make sure you're entering feet and inches separately (not combining them). Also verify the correct unit is selected in Settings. If issues persist, please contact us.
