Welcome to Tip Calc ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle your information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and use for the Tip Calc mobile application.
Key Point: Tip Calc is designed with privacy in mind. Your tip calculations, amounts, place names and history are stored only on your device and are never sent to us. To improve the app, it sends anonymous usage statistics that are not linked to you — and you can turn them off at any time in Settings.
Information We Collect
Data Stored Locally on Your Device:
- Bill amounts and tip calculations
- Tip history and saved entries
- Place names and categories you assign to tips
- App preferences (default tip percentage, currency settings)
This data is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's standard data storage mechanisms and is never uploaded to any external servers.
Anonymous Usage Statistics: see the section below for exactly what is sent and how to turn it off.
Information We Do NOT Collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address
- Your bill amounts, tip amounts, place names, or anything else you type into the app
- Your location — we do not access GPS or location services (our advertising partner may estimate an approximate region from your IP address; see Advertising)
- Your IP address — our servers do not store it
- Payment or financial account information
- Your Apple ID or any account — the app has no sign-in
- Device identifiers — we do not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) or the vendor identifier (IDFV) ourselves; our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect the advertising identifier, only with your permission — see the Advertising section below
Anonymous Usage Statistics
We collect anonymous usage information to improve the app: a random installation identifier that is not linked to your identity or Apple ID, your device model and iOS version, the app version, your device's time zone, region and language settings, accessibility settings in use (such as larger text), when sessions start and end, which screens and features you use (for example "a tip was saved", with the number of people splitting and the Personal/Business and category choice, or "a PDF report was exported"), whether you have an active subscription or trial and the plan you chose, and crash and performance diagnostics provided by Apple.
We do not collect your name, email, precise location, IP address, advertising identifier, or the contents of anything you enter in the app, such as amounts or place names.
- Not linked to you, not used for tracking: the installation identifier is random, exists only in this app, and is deleted if you delete the app. We never combine it with other apps' or companies' data.
- Not shared or sold: we do not share this data with third parties and do not use it for advertising.
- Where it is stored: on a database operated for us by our hosting provider, Supabase, accessible only to us.
- How long: usage records are deleted automatically after 13 months, crash diagnostics after 6 months. Only aggregated totals (such as "sessions per day") are kept longer, and they contain no installation identifiers.
- Turn it off: Settings → Share Usage Data. When it is off, nothing is collected or sent, and statistics not yet sent are deleted from your device.
- Delete what was sent: copy your Installation ID from Settings and email it to us; we will delete all records for it.
How We Use Your Information
Your tip history and calculations stay on your device, so we do not have access to them. The data you enter is used solely to:
- Calculate tips and split bills within the app
- Display your tip history and statistics
- Remember your preferences for a personalized experience
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored locally on your iOS device using secure storage mechanisms provided by Apple. Your tip data is never stored on our servers and remains on your device and under your control. The only data that leaves your device is the anonymous usage statistics described above (if left on), sent over an encrypted connection.
If you delete the Tip Calc app, all locally stored data will be permanently removed from your device.
Third-Party Services
Tip Calc may include the following third-party services:
- Apple App Store: For app distribution and in-app purchases (if applicable). Apple's privacy policy governs their collection of data.
- Supabase: Hosts our anonymous usage statistics on our behalf (see Anonymous Usage Statistics). It does not use the data for its own purposes.
- AdMob (Google Ads): The free version of Tip Calc displays banner ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC) — see the Advertising section below for details.

Advertising
The free version of Tip Calc displays banner ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising identifier, IDFA, only if you allow tracking), IP address, and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads. See https://policies.google.com/privacy.
When you first launch the app, iOS asks for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency). If you decline, the advertising identifier is not shared and you will see non-personalized ads.
Where required by law (for example in the EEA/UK), a consent form is shown before ads are served, and you can see non-personalized ads if you decline. You can also purchase the ad-free upgrade to remove ads entirely.
You can manage Google's ad personalization at https://adssettings.google.com.
Removing ads: Purchasing the Remove Ads / Pro subscription removes all advertising from the app. The purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store; we never receive or store your payment details.
Children's Privacy
Tip Calc is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Your tip data stays on your device, and the usage statistics we receive are anonymous and contain no personal information.
Your Rights and Choices
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: View all your stored data within the app's History and Summary sections
- Deletion: Delete individual tip entries or all data through the app settings
- Export: Export your tip history for your records
- Usage statistics: Turn them off any time in Settings → Share Usage Data, or email us your Installation ID (shown in Settings) to have everything we received deleted
- App Removal: Uninstalling the app removes all data stored on your device and resets the installation identifier
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
