Please don't email health details you'd rather keep private. We can help with almost everything without them.

Getting started

How do I log my period?

Tap + at the bottom right, choose the bleeding amount, and Save. Spotting doesn't start a new cycle unless you turn on "This is my period". To add earlier periods, open the Cycle tab and tap Add past periods.

Why does the app say "estimated"?

Until you log a positive LH test or your wrist temperature rises, ovulation is estimated from your cycle length. Knowing uses the usual cycle length from Settings until you've logged two periods, then your own average.

How do I change my goal?

Settings › Goal. You can switch between Trying to conceive, Pregnant, Just tracking and Avoiding pregnancy at any time. The Test tab appears only while trying to conceive.

How do I remove the sample data?

If you loaded example cycles to explore the app, remove them from Settings. Days you logged yourself are never changed.

Tests, Apple Watch and Apple Health

The test strip reader can't read my strip

Use even light without glare, hold the strip flat and sideways with the absorbent tip on the left so the T line comes before the C line, and fill the frame. If it still can't read it, tap Enter manually. The photo is never saved.

Wrist temperature and HRV show "—"

Wrist temperature needs an Apple Watch that records it (Series 8, Ultra or later) worn during sleep with Sleep Focus on, and a few nights of data. Then check iPhone Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Knowing and allow Sleeping Wrist Temperature and Heart Rate Variability.

How do I bring in history from Apple Health?

Settings › Apple Health › Import from Apple Health. It brings in periods, ovulation tests, sexual activity, cervical mucus and blood pressure from the last 3 years without overwriting what you logged.

Sync, backup and your data

How do I move my data to a new iPhone?

Either turn on iCloud sync in Settings › Backup & restore on both phones, or create a backup file there, save it to Files or AirDrop it, and restore it on the new phone. Restoring fills in missing days and never overwrites existing entries.

How do I export for my doctor?

The Report tab can create a one-page PDF. Settings › Export data lets you choose categories and export CSV or PDF.

How do I delete everything?

Settings › Delete All Data. Make a backup first if you might want your history later. Data already saved to Apple Health stays there and can be managed in the Health app.

Notifications show on my lock screen. Are they private?

Discreet wording is on by default, so reminders don't mention periods or fertility. Change it in Settings › Reminders.

Subscriptions

How do I restore a purchase?

Settings › Knowing. Premium › Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with.

How do I cancel?

iPhone Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Knowing. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
