Overview

CitizenPrep is a U.S. citizenship test preparation application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect (and what we don't), how your data is handled, and your rights as a user.

The short version: we do not collect, store, or share any personal information about you. The app works entirely on your device.

Information We Do NOT Collect

CitizenPrep does not collect any of the following:

  • Name, email address, or any contact information
  • Account credentials — there are no accounts or sign-ups
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Usage analytics or behavioral tracking data
  • Crash reports sent to external servers
  • Any biometric or sensitive personal data

Local Storage on Your Device

All app data is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage (React Native). This includes:

  • Your study progress and completed questions
  • Your selected U.S. state for state-specific answers
  • Your language preference for bilingual mode
  • Your daily streak count
  • Bookmarked or saved questions

None of this data is transmitted to any server. It lives only on your device and is never shared with us or any third party. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

Network Requests

CitizenPrep occasionally makes a single outbound network request to fetch a publicly available JSON data file hosted on GitHub Pages. This request is used to update time-sensitive civics answers — such as the current President, Vice President, or your state's Governor — when those officeholders change.

No personal data is included in this request. The request is a standard HTTP GET to a public URL. No cookies, identifiers, or user information are sent. This request is functionally identical to loading a public webpage.

Third-Party Services

CitizenPrep does not integrate any third-party analytics platforms, advertising networks, crash-reporting services, or tracking SDKs. There are no third-party SDKs embedded in the app that collect user data.

Advertising

CitizenPrep contains no advertisements of any kind. There are no in-app advertising networks, banner ads, or sponsored content. There is no ad targeting or ad-related data collection.

Children's Privacy

CitizenPrep is intended for individuals preparing for the U.S. naturalization interview. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Because we collect no personal data from any user, this applies equally to all age groups. If you believe a child has somehow submitted personal information through the app, please contact us immediately at the address below.

Data Security

Since no personal data is transmitted to or stored on our servers, the attack surface for a data breach affecting CitizenPrep users is effectively zero on our end. Your study data is protected by your device's own security features (passcode, biometrics, encryption at rest).

Your Rights

Because we do not collect or store any personal data, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on our end. If you wish to clear your in-app data (progress, preferences, streak), you can do so from within the app's Settings screen, or by uninstalling the app.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Go to the Settings tab (the gear icon at the bottom of the screen) and tap "Change State." Select your state from the list. The app will immediately update all state-specific answers — such as your senators, representatives, and governor — to match your selection.

Under USCIS policy, applicants who are 65 years or older and have been lawful permanent residents for 20 or more years are only required to study and answer 20 specially designated civics questions — rather than all 128.

To activate this mode, toggle "65/20 Mode" on the Home screen. The app will filter your study set and practice tests to show only those 20 required questions.

Yes. CitizenPrep uses the full official 2025 USCIS civics test — all 128 questions as published by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

For time-sensitive answers (such as the current President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, or your state's Governor and Senators), the app automatically downloads updated information from a public data file whenever your device is online. This ensures your answers always reflect current officeholders.

Yes! All 128 questions, answers, translations, and your study progress are stored directly on your device. You can study, take practice tests, and review flashcards with no internet connection required.

The only feature that requires an occasional internet connection is the automatic update of time-sensitive official names (President, Governor, etc.). If you're offline, the most recently downloaded version of those answers will be used.

Go to the Settings tab and look for "Bilingual Mode." Select your preferred language from the available options: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Russian, or Ukrainian.

When Bilingual Mode is enabled, questions and answers will be displayed in both English and your chosen language side by side, helping you study in your native language while familiarizing yourself with the English answers you'll hear at your interview.

We take accuracy very seriously — the stakes of this test are too high for errors. If you believe an answer is outdated or incorrect, please email us at essentialdevteam@gmail.com with the question number and what you believe the correct answer should be, along with a source if you have one (e.g., the USCIS website).

We will investigate promptly and push a correction if needed. Thank you for helping us keep the app accurate for everyone.
